Powerbook sin ethernet, como conectar a internet?

cacahuet

Hola!

d;)

ok, me respondo yo mismo. He tenido una respuesta en un foro de yahoo dedicado a powerbook, así que la publico aqui por si alguien tiene el mismo problema.

Ok,

To make a resume (if anyone else have the same problem, or would improve
this document), how to connect a powerbook 1400cs (i suppose it could
function to any 1xxx 2xxxx or 3xxxx series) within ethernet card (RJ-45
connection):

The first to check is the powerbook 1400cs has (or hasn't) the AUI port, and
has (or hasn't) a PCMCIA Ethernet card or a built-in ethernet card. If there
isn't any card, then there are two possibility:

[a]. buy one of them (PCMCIA or internal card) and install it.

[b]. conect the powerbook via serial (localtalk/appletalk) to a proxy server
(a computer with a proxy server installed and with internet connection; in
my case, powermac 7300 G3 300 with 300+RAM and 2Gb HD), that means a router
machine and, suppose, mac machine.

Whe have a discussion to how to access to internet via (in my case
DSL(ADSL), but it can be modem via) through another computer.

Options:
--------
b.1. With Mac OS 9.x (or from MacOS 7.5.3 and Open Transport 1.1.1,
Macintosh PowerPC or 68030 or higher) installed in the server:
---------------------
Jeanine Cowen have the soft utility called IPNetRouter
(www.sustworks.com/site/prod_ipr_overview.html) and it works ok to
share a modem connection (suppose ok to DSL connection)
I have find another utility web for internet mac utilities:
(link roto)

b.2. Install Mac OS X on the server machine.
--------------------------------------------
Kevin Faulhaber suggest me for it, because X has the necessary soft
build-in. An initial problem is the kind of machine, because i have a PM
7300 with 300+RAM and upgraded CarrierZIF G3 300, but is a unsupported-mac
for X. Remember I tryed with the beta X and it doesn't work. There the
utility of XPostFacto (eshop.macsales.com/OSXCenter to install X on
unssuported macs, suppose i try in the future.

b.3. Modification of b.2. Try to install MKlinux, that supposed to have the
same build-in soft to do a 7300 machine a router.

Thanks for Kevin Faulhaber, Jeanine Cowen and Em to the informations. When I
receive the powerbook 1400cs -...usps ground shipping from usa to spain, a
week waiting and they said 2 or 3 more....ufff...-, i will try (if i could)
every option. Then i will report it. I think it could be useful for most
old-powerbook users.
