Going High-Def - Plasma Versus LCD
The first thing to understand about HD displays for gaming is the difference between Plasma and LCD technologies. Plasma is not recommended for gamers because of issues with resolution compatibility and brightness uniformity.
While Plasma TVs have a small pricing advantage over LCDs, when you're shelling out $1,000 or $2,000 for a TV, what's $200 in the mix for better overall gaming quality?
Although each generation of LCD panel is improving, the largest deficiency of LCD displays - compared to plasma, and even DLP projection - is black level / contrast performance with film-based material, such as movies and most television programs. Most LCD displays output dark grey levels where there is supposed to be black, and the cheaper models give off a pasty grey effect during dark scenes.
Projectors?
An increasingly viable option for HD gaming is the use of high-def projectors, which have the advantage of being portable and scalable in terms of the screen size you want to use. Texas Instruments was showing off its DLP technology at CES, and a major part of the showcase was DLP-powered HD projectors for gaming. These were stylized projectors specifically suited for the task, rather than the drab conference-room projectors of yore.
Portability is an issue for both gamers and parents with gaming children. Being able to take your console and HD display along to a friend's house or other venue is quite advantageous, compared to being tied down to a particular location all the time. Also, if you're a parent who wants to reclaim the TV and some peace and quiet, packing the kids off to the attic with a projector is an enviable option.
HD projectors don't quite have the quality of their traditional screen brethrens, but in a fast paced FPS or racing game, for example, the difference in quality on a halfway decent projector is barely noticeable.
conclusion: GAMES, Consolas, HD LCD - Plasma - Proyector.
EL LCD, a pesar de los niveles de negro.
el Proyector tal vez, buenos fps.
